Most people should apply during their Initial Enrollment Period, which begins 3 months before the month you turn 65 and ends 3 months after. Missing this window can result in permanent premium penalties.
Is Medicare enrollment automatic?
Only if you're already receiving Social Security benefits. If not, you must actively enroll. Many people are surprised to learn they have to sign up themselves.
What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?
